gonna bliss the hell out of you

here's a couple of things to make you smile at the start of this totally beautiful spring weekend - i've been listening to a lot of 70s FM pop lately, particularly the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, which is an incredible primer for the era, with totally amazing songs by Heart, Todd Rundgren, Styx, 10cc, (also, see literally every Quentin Tarantino soundtrack).
so let's start with:

"Gotta Have Your Love" by Blue Suede - you know Blue Suede because of their song "Hooked on a Feeling" (which is actually a cover) - you probably heard it for the first time when you saw Reservoir Dogs... they were a swedish band in the early 70s, considered by most a '"novelty band" - anyway, this is the HOAF 7" B-side, and i think its fucking awesome.

next:
"Everything is Everything" by Phoenix - you know, Phoenix, the french band? their sound is pure pop, like southern california, circa 1975, in the summertime. they're on virgin france, their first album, 'United' came out in 2000 and blew me away - then in the past year, their song "Too Young" was in Lost in Translation and "If I Ever Feel Better" is on Erland Oye's DJ Kicks cd (which comes out next week)... blah blah blah - sorry, i'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to these guys.
anyway, this song is the lead single (also on 7") from their new album 'Alphabetical' which is out in europe, but not here, and thus far, there is no release date for it to arrive... this is upsetting because its totally brilliant. plus when i saw them in london earlier week, they fucking killed it.
peace.

Just discovered your site through STG. Looks great--I love that Phoenix song, and the Ben Gibbard thriller below is classic. Thanks!

Seriously Blair, that Phoenix track is awesome. I'm gonna check Amoeba this weekend to see if they have it.

I keep waiting to hear a Phoenix song I don't like. I'm not sure it's gonna happen. I may have to finally break down, dip into the income tax refund and order their albums. Thanks for this, one of the best yet.

Yeah for phoenix, finally a French band singing in English with a decent accent. And their songs are near-perfect.
