sugar smacks

a bit of sugar coated (german) pop for this beautiful monday morning:

"High From Down" by Tenfold Loadstar - german trio from hamburg (who are also on the lado label), their sound is fairly straightforward pop/rock, but its got a little extra something in there that i can't quite decode - and man, i swear, when this woman's voice goes high, harmonizing with herself, for the anthemic-sing-along chorus, it gives me the willies...

and

"Scary World Theory" by Lali Puna - oh Lali Puna... i haven't yet heard a song by these cats that i don't like - a little background? german, fronted by Valeria Trebeljahr, backed by Markus Acher on guitar (who also plays with the notwist), drummer Christoph Brandner, and keyboardist Florian Zimmer - together they make good pop/rock, with a splash of electronic clicks and pops thrown in for good measure - its about time i picked up some LP on vinyl, because i feel like this would work in some of my sets. anyone heard the new album yet?

Comments

I get a lot of good reaction with Lali Puna, but be careful about placement. A lot of their tracks seem to be mood killers, so save them for a wind down.

yeah, i heard the new lali puna. sadly, it sucks. more guitars and less electronics, somehow it just doesn't suit them. saw them play a couple of weeks ago, though, and they sounded great.
