crying for help

one of my absolute favorite songs of all time is "Crying By the Kiss", by the Morgans.

i discovered the song on a cheap gothic compilation album that i picked up in some bargain bin.

dark and beautiful, i think the song is nearly perfection for the genre. anytime it comes up on my playlist, i have to put it on repeat a few times to get my fill.

i have that song and a few others from the Morgans on various compilations, but i've never been able to track down a full album from them. i've scoured the web and filesharing networks looking for somewhere to (preferably) purchase an album, but i'd settle for downloading some songs if that was all i could get. i've had no luck though. i can't find any other info on the band or even whether they even have an album out.

this is where the robot readers come in. i know some of you spend a lot of time digging through used record stores and such. if you can find any albums by the morgans in any format for sale anywhere, please let me know in a comment. thanks.

[ed. note -- for those of you unable to play an .OGG file, Click Here to listen to a converted mp3 file. OGG is still a very high quality format, and it's worth persuing a player in the future.

Also, I looked all over the place on the net for info about the Morgans, and there ain't SHIT out there. Surely someone out there must know something...]

Hi,

I also would like to hear your absolute fav song but unfortunaly I can't play .ogg files on my old OS. Could you reupload it as mp3 please. Thanks, Dennis

I too would love to hear the song. Please, Please reupload as an mp3 file.
Thanx!

Posted by: the obscure superstar wannabe at June 2, 2004 3:45 PM

there are a number of ogg players for pretty much every platform out there: http://www.vorbis.com/software.psp

i'm too lazy to convert it.

Posted by: anders at June 2, 2004 5:11 PM

winamp (winamp.com) plays OGG natively, and is a kickass player worth looking into.

Posted by: winamp unlimited at June 2, 2004 6:31 PM

Big thanks for converting it. It's a great song that starts a little bit boring but becomes very interesting towards the end. Further it's a song that gets better with each repeat.

Bye and thanks again,

Dennis

so i looked in gemm.com and found a handful of singles ("half girl, half jesus," "say," "taste," "teenile dementia," and "tell me what you taste"), all of which appear on 6 different goth/rock/industrial comps they're all from england, from the mid-90s, on the Diversity label or Daft Pope - I would imagine they might not have put out a full length, because all the singles are on CD and 7" but i couldn't find anything else...

Posted by: robot blair at June 3, 2004 10:54 AM

thanks, blair. i have most of those songs already from the compilations that they're on, but i'll probably pick up the singles anyway.

Posted by: anders at June 3, 2004 11:22 AM

I have three cd singles I would be willing to part with.

Tell Me What You Taste
Half Girl Half Jesus
Teenile Dementia

if anyone can point me in the direction of the mp3 of Atichoo then I would be eternally greatfull.

Thank you guys and gals for what little info you could provide. Ever since I got the compilation disc with Teenile Dementia it has been driving me nuts that I can't find anything out about the band. I'll keep searching and if I ever find anything else then I will share it back here. Thanks for the leads on the singles that I didn't know of.

I too am looking for anything I can find by the Morgans. I've recently discovered them on the "Flesheaters" 3-Disc box set, and am now hellbent on finding anything else I can. If anyone knows where I could buy or download something, PLEASE e-mail me and let me know!

Also, I have had no luck finding anything about the band. What the hell happened to them? Someone, please fill us in! I love their sound, but know nothing about them. Again, e-mail me if you know anything. I'd like to put together some sort of web page for them....

Just an addendum to my last post, I have recently found two more songs -- "Tommy", found on the "Shit Factory: Volume 3" compilation, and "Atishoo", found on the "Shit Factory: Volume 4" compilation albums. I must say, they are very solid songs. Totally worth the listen!

I believe they also recorded under the name "Lucyfix" if that helps.

I am looking for any mint singles or cd's (preferred) by The Morgans. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know of 1 cd single being sold out of Greece "Music Kitchen" but repeated questions concerning costs have gone unanswered. Can any1 help me?

Posted by: Ira at May 31, 2007 12:34 AM

To the best of my knowledge this is the entirety of their catalog:

Atishoo
Better Red Than Dead
Crying By The Kiss
Half Girl-Half Jesus
Jonestown
Say
Teenile Dementia
Tell Me What You Taste
Tommy

I've found all of them on various goth compilations, but have never seen an album length CD by them. It would be nice to know something about the band, but it's great music in any case.

As someone else mentioned, Lucyfix appears to be an alias or at least features the same vocalist, Chloe LeFay. Songs by Lucyfix:

Simon Says
Hole In Me
Need To Feed

Possibly another one by The Morgans - Joyrider Boy.

I've got the majority of the compilations you are talking about, and today after listening to the Morgans' songs I realized that I knew nothing about them.
Thanks for extra clues and the relations with Chloe LeFay and Lucyfix that I did not know anything about.

I've got:
Grrrl Power A History Of Women In Popular Music 3CDs 1997 with the Morgans ("Teenile Dementia" song) and Chloe LeFay ("Red Or Dead" song )between othe great bands.

Now the same cds are reedited under this name.
Femme Fatale - A History of Women in Popular Music (3 Cd Set)
----------------------------------------
Now I also see that in Gothic Erotica 6cds "Red or Dead" is a song associated to The Morgans. "Say" is also in the compilation.
And "Hole In Me" + "Simon Says" by Lucyfix
------------------------------------------------
The Morgans - "Tommy" is also in God Save The Punk.

I managed to get hold of two Morgans EPs which include credits as follows: Dave Axford, Eddy Brimson, Lucy Cotter, Chloe LeFay, Pete Dixon, and Russ Pay.

Some compilations include what sounds like solo work by both LeFay and Cotter:
LeFay - Hole In Me, Need To Feed
Cotter - No Man's Land

I've also flagged two other songs credited to "Dust", but which sound a lot like Lucy Cotter - G Minor, Me The Silent Daughter

A correction to my earlier post - Better Red Than Dead is actually titled Red or Dead. My mistake, don't know what I was thinking.

Posted by: Mark at August 3, 2007 9:37 AM

Thanks Mark for the info.
The songs credited to Dust are excellent too. I love them.

Posted by: Maurici Ribera at August 9, 2007 5:27 PM

What years were the Morgans active?

Posted by: Curious George at August 25, 2007 3:01 PM

The two EPs I have were released in 1995. Given the small catalog, I suspect it lasted a couple of years at most.

Posted by: Mark at September 6, 2007 9:38 AM

I've collected the following tracks through various compilations and EPs.

Morgans:
Atishoo
Crying By The Kiss
Half Girl-Half Jesus (Girl Version)
Half Girl-Half Jesus (Jesus Version)
Half Girl-Half Rant
Jonestown
Joyrider Boy
Red or Dead
Say
Simon Says
Teenile Dementia
Tell Me What You Taste
Tell Me What You Taste (Radio Edit)
Tommy

Other:
Hole In Me (Lucyfix)
No Man's Land (Lucy Cotter)
Me The Silent Daughter (Dust)
G Minor (Dust)
House of Come (Die Lady Di)
New Roses (Die Lady Di)

The tracks credited to Dust and Die Lady Di sound very much like Lucy Cotter's voice. I'm confident enough to include them. Anything credited to Lucyfix is either The Morgans or Lucy Cotter.

I found this post, which provides some background info on the band.

Posted by: curious george at September 12, 2007 7:16 AM

a very thorough and kindly gentleeeeman called ransom directed me here...hello peeps....seems there is a peculiar ressurgence in interest...even a rumour of a re-release if there appears to be enough interest...thanking you for your kind regard....will keep you posted.

thanx to ransom; http://chronologicalsnobbery.blogspot.com/2007/08/morgans_27.html

Well, I'm certainly not looking forward to the amount of money I'm going to be putting out to purchase all of these comps. Although a re-release would be nice, I'd be just as thrilled if they were made available to download through their MySpace, iTunes, etc.

Regardless, I'm happy to have this here as a resource. Thanks, everyone!
