two fantastic electro cuts for you today:

"Sehnsuct" by Ellen Allien -- my girl bought this album for me (the Berlinette album from 2003) when she was touring in Germany last summer... this is the side-one track-one, and it kills me how perfect it is - the breakbeat is great, and the synth swells, the chopped up vocal sounds make for such a great six minutes. buy the album and see what else unfolds across the album.

plus

"Cherry Blossom Girl (Simian Mobile Disco Mix)" by Air -- sometimes these guys get a bad rap for being french, or for being soft, but all the songs i've heard off their most recent album are really good, as was their (admittedly totally weird) underrated previous effort 10,000 Hz Legend. one thing that is undeniable is that they get the best artists to do their remixes. this one, provided by SMD (which i'm lead to believe is one of the members of the band Simian, not the whole group), kicks it out electro style with funky keys and deep rolling synths, and brings a great new feel to the song. buy the 12" here

Thanks for another Ellen Allien sample, now I am sure I have to find the album; this is fantastic, crisp electro.

Simian mixes are always unpredictable. Their radical deconstruction of Zero 7's "Destiny" is also worth checking out.

"Sehnsucht" is the best cut off of a very good album.

Here's some blather I wrote about it back in February.
