Pitchformula

An engineering student at the University of Chicago did an extensive bit of research to derive a formula behind pitchfork's reviews in order to write songs that would score a high rating from the site. You can read the abstract of his research here. You can also listen to the two songs that he wrote and decide for yourself.

Kissing God
I'm Already Dead

You should really read his site to see why he wrote the songs the way he did. You can find more about that here.

How cool. I wonder if Wilco knows and uses this formula. They seem to fit all the descriptors, it would be interesting to compare the reviews of another review site with pitchforks reviews. The songs aren't half bad either...keep up the good work, I have already added some albums to my buy list because of the music you share.

I don't know, it seems to me that the songs are missing something very important. Maybe you can hear authenticity? It's still a great idea, and I actually wish I loved the music; maybe his 'research' wasn't spot-on. It reminds me of that artist who sent out questionaires asking people what they liked in a painting, and using the findings, created a painting he felt the majority of people would love.
