DFA+1979
speaking of bands changing their names to avoid lawsuits:

"Dead Womb" and "Romantic Rights" by Death From Above 1979 -- you know how i love a bit of modern art rock/hardcore, and these guys are great for that. a two man band from Toronto, Canada - Jesse Keeler on bass + synths, and Sebastien Grainger on drums and vocals - they pound out the loud (Romantic) and fast (Dead) like a fucking pair of champs. they were just called 'Death From Above' up until about a month ago, but got into a little legal tiff with the DFA (since death from above is what 'DFA' actually stands for), and actually took another name, 'First To Fight' (which i actually liked just fine) for about a day, but apparently have come back to this DFA'79 thing - from NME:
About the name change, Grainger said: "1979 is the year of my birth. 1979 is the year of ’Off The Wall’. 1979 is the last year of the last cool decade. 1979 is scratched into my arm. 1979 is scratched into my arm. 1979 is scratched into my fucking arm."
they are working with 679 Recordings in the UK (home to the Streets) and have released two singles on Sound Virus, and Black Ache, respectively, in Canada, and their debut album You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine will be released in September.
