Meguro = Tokyo, Maguro = Tuna.

Meguro

Takashi Wada - 110th August Takashi Wada - 28 degrees Celcius. I don't know much about Takashi Wada, and unfortunately, both of his names are fairly common in Japan so it makes googling somewhat difficult. He's being put out on the Onitor lable, but unfortunately, the label's site is under construction and difficult to navigate. But you don't really need the backstory to know what's going on here. Takashi makes minimal beats and adds acoustic guitar on top with some other background noises. The album, Meguro, is very slow and atmospheric, kind of like a modern day Jean Michel Jarre. Lots of dreamy keyboards and primitive drum machine beats.

Meguro is a city located in the center of Tokyo. It's something of a more natural area in the middle of all Tokyo's crazy neon electronic madness. Lots of steep, grassy hillsides and trees in contrast to the concrete and circuitry nearby, making a perfect metaphor for Takashi's cold yet natural-sounding album.

August is light and airy, unlike a hot and muggy Japanese August. It skips along on a little shuffle beat wtih some keyboard drones in the back. Nice tune. 28 Degrees starts off slow, but ends up with a faster freakout at the end that sounds like when Mario became Starman in the first Super Mario Brothers. It's funny. The sound here is somewhat similar to what Dntel and Solvent do, although much less dense.

Really nice stuff. Reminds me a lot of 1 Mile North, Bexar Bexar, and Telefon Tel Aviv

Onitor comes through with some great sounds. I stayed away from this originally (like I've stayed away from the newer ambient releases on Kompakt, 'cause you just can't get 'em all), but after hearing it I'll want to pick it up soon.

I agree with the Bexar Bexar comparison and would add Women & Children and some of the work by Anne Laplantine/Anne Hamburg.

This definitely reminds me a lot of the first Telefon Tel Aviv album, and a little bit of Manitoba too.
