bust out ya tweeters!

push those buttons
"Nonexistent" by Push Button Objects -- This is the kind of song that should make your head bob at the same time it's making you twitch in your seat. PBO, ne Miami-native Edgar Farinas, is an unstoppable force, with releases on three of the most important IDM labels around: Miami-based Schematic, Chigago's hip-hop-idm Chocolate Industries and the mighty SKAM from Manchester, UK. He's worked with Schematic's Phonecia, and released a sick EP with DJ Craze as Ko-Wreck Technique. This comes from his third release, the Unauthorized EP on Chocolate, and is typical of his work - running a drum machine's hip-hop-style break through vicious filters, adding synths, then tweaking the hell out of things with more filters, changing up the tempo, and generally freaking things out. Pick up the ep (the rest of it is just as good as this track) here and the rest of his catalogue is available here.

"Raum Variation 1 (remixed by Kit Clayton)" by Pole -- Put simply, Pole, AKA Stefan Betke makes ultra-minimal electronic dub music. Supposedly the origin of his sound coms from accidentally dropping his Waldorf 4-Pole Filter, that, once damaged, started to make all kinds of unpredictable and random pops and crackles.
This mix comes from his R album, released on his own ~scape label, which has reworkings of the two original Raum tracks, as well as remixes by D. Meteo and Burnt Friedman. I picked this mix because Clayton does the song quite the service, bringing it remarkably close to the "schaffel" rhythm that's so in vogue these days, thanks to the Kompakt label (which I love dearly). And Clayton? I got this from clayton's site, "joshua kit clayton's bio: i was born in 1974. i live in san francisco. i make sound. i make computer programs. that is all."
For more on Pole, check his discogs page, buy the R album here and view the rest of his many releases available at Insound.

Not feeling the first track a whole lot, but loving the second, reminds me of basic channel, and I've got a waldorf, so I must show some support.

Sadly, Push Button Objects was the only artist I've ever seen boo'ed off stage when he opened for Kid Koala at the Knitting Factory a couple of years ago. Very underestimated by that crowd. Admittedly, not his best set though, but still the lack of respect was a shame.

if you can find it, the gescom remix of nonexistant really really kicks ass.

That Kit Clayton track bores the hell out of me. But then, I feel that way about almost all minimal micro-house. Except metamatics.

Boom bee ba boop... swiiiisssshhhh...
*five and a half minutes later*
Boom bee ba boop... swiiiisssshhhh...
*next track*
Boom bee ba boop... swiiiisssshhhh...
*etc*

The Push Button objects is better.. but why does this song have to be 6:25? What is said in minute 6 that was not said by minute 3? Electronic musicians need to get some editors..
