Sweden Drops a Nugget On Us

Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt
Dungen - Festival. I swear it's a coincidence that this album was just wildly reviewed by pitchfork last week. I got this album a few week's back and just now got it into my posting schedule. It took me that long to figure out which track to post, since they're all so good and crazy in their own crazy Swedish way.

At first listen you probably think that Dungen is made up of a bunch of Swedish stoner rockers, but the "band" is actually just one guy-- multi-instrumentalist Gustav Ejstes. According to the press release, he looks just like Owen Wilson. So that take ladies. Anyway, The music is just plain awesome. Parts of it remind me of Sigur Ros, while other parts sound like Bends-era Radiohead, and most of it just sounds like stretched out pysch from the 70s. But no mere homage, this dude fucking lives it. The drums are expertly recorded, and that bass just hums. So good.

I stress that every song on the cd is different, which is awesome. No retreads-- just new sounds on top of new sounds on top of incredible beats and reverbed piano. Love it. The album, Ta Det Lugnt (Which means something about the serene) is out on Swedish imprint Subliminal Sounds. You can grab the album here in America through our good friends at Forced Exposure.

In other news, I (robot mark), am going to be on vacation all week. I'm heading back east for the first time in months to visit with the family and check out an old friend's wedding on the Cape. Clamback style. As always, the other robots will hold down the fort, and I'll be back on Tuesday. Hopefully with a new job. Fingers crossed.

later.
