Such a pretty house

Update, 9/23: Big thanks to Mike Viola for sending us a board recording of this track. The sound quality is obviously much better now. If you didn't hear it before, hear it now; it's worth a listen.

Mike Viola

Meg Toohey

Mike Viola and Meg Toohey are two excellent mainstays of the Boston pop scene. I've been listening online to WERS, the Emerson College radio station, because I miss Boston a lot, and WERS used to be my morning commute soundtrack. Anyway, these two showed up to promote their Boston Pop Underground show tonight, and started doing a rendition of Radiohead's "No Surprises". I happened to grab it but missed the first few seconds, but here's most of it:

No Surprises

Boston Pop Underground is a weekly pop music series Viola is doing at the Paradise Lounge in Boston. I've never been to one, but it sounds great, especially since the Paradise is a great venue.
As for Viola and Toohey, they've been on the scene for a while now, especially Viola, and they're very good songwriters and performers. I know more about Viola than Toohey, and while I can't tell you a way to buy this radio performance, I can tell you that Falling Into Place, an album he did with his band the Candy Butchers (buy here) is pretty damn good. Toohey's most recent album with her band the So and So's, Give Me Drama, is available for purhcase here (also check out the downloads).
Check out their stuff, and check out WERS, one of the best college stations in the country.

Pft! ... someone needs a pop screen. All the same, it's a nice simple cover. Well done. Makes me wish I was back in boston again too.
