I know you like it kind of dirty...

busted
"Monument" and "Mind Blindness" by Dirty On Purpose -- Man, so far as I can tell anyway, Dirty On Purpose is real nice - its four guys and a girl: Doug Marvin (Drums), Joseph Jurwicz (Guitar/Vocals), George Wilson (Guitar/Vocals), DJ Boudreau (Bass), and Erika Forster (Keys/Bass/Vocals), and they're based out of Brooklyn. I feel like I might even know some of these folks, but maybe its just the instantly familiar sound they have: DOP is part sweet indie pop, part walls-of-sound, and part angular rock with accents of distortion. Mmm hmm, that's good indie rock.

You can buy their new EP Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow (that's a great title, and I wholly support the idea!) here, or, if you live in NYC, at Sound Fix, Eat Records, Etherea, and Sound Track (support yer indie music retailers!).

Again, if you're in NYC, you can check them out on Friday, October 15, as part of the March Records Showcase with Graham Smith, Le Concorde, The Caufield Sisters and Fancey, at Fez; then again on Thursday, November 11, with The Arcade Fire and Hidden Cameras at Bowery Ballroom (which is a heck of a lineup).

[ed note: That cool band I posted a week or so back, Burnside Project, is playing at Pianos tomorrow (tuesday) with Tracy Shedd and Aarktica, Plus: Frankenixon and Kirk Smith (Pianos is at 158 Ludlow Street @ Stanton - Lower East Side, NYC) - its kind of an early show, with BP on at 10:30, so get there earlier if you want to see the other bands too.]

I got a chance to see Dirty on Purpose in the tiny Backstage at the Black Cat in DC. It was a five dollar show and they were opening for a VERY lame three-piece metal band.

Dirty on Purpose had a really good sound, and their drummer REALLY gives them a solid backbone (I think he overplays a bit at times, but not too badly). I don't think they're going to revolutioonize pop-rock, but they're definitely an enjoyable band to listen to. I have a feeling that they're only going to get better.

They're lovely folk, one and all.
