three count bout
here's a shocker - jp raving about another artist on Lex records. but fucking shit, every release they put out is good enough to listen to on repeat for weeks, and the entire work, from the music to the beautiful sleeve art by Ehquestionmark (or in this case, Doseone himself), is something that feels good to own. in this robot's opinion you're hard pressed to find a catalog that delivers to all senses the way Lex's does.
but anyhow. Subtle. which is almost Themselves (Jel and Doseone) plus Dax Pierson, Alex Kort, Marty Dowers, and Jordan Dalrymple. new to Lex, these artists worked largely out of the excellent anticon records previously. here on Lex, they're releasing an LP entitled A New White, which will be released on 10/18 [buy it from Bleep or look for it in stores], in addition to this single for F.K.O. which is already out [buy MP3s or order the 12"].
the song itself is absolutely beautiful. Doseone's lyrics and cadence make a little more sense than usual with a less broken beat than we're used to hearing him rap over, and soft, organic production that lives up to the group's name perfectly. it's comforting, addicitive, and everything builds at just the right pace to compliment the audio elements as they all weave together. there's also a mind-popping music video by SSSR that (in addition to being adorable and extremely visually innovative) brings even more completion the whole work.
well done lads. Lex, you're still the shit. Subtle, can't wait to buy the LP. and for chrissakes, WATCH THE VIDEO!
