Seems So Bright - one depth below (periscope)

Seems So Bright - Numbers

let's talk about Michael Simone. singer, songwriter, producer, fellow North Carolinian, and all-around nice guy. he's done a stint in the house music scene, producing deep, vocal-rich house music on Warmth and other local labels under the name Lovesky. but mostly you've hopefully seen/heard him around town as simply Michael Simone, or Michael Simone and his band, or some iteration thereof. and it's beautiful stuff.

he's got a new project, called Seems So Bright, which I'm very excited about. the first single off what I'm assuming will be an EP stunned me - it's a dark, simple drum-and-piano build that layers on vocals, drums and all the other toppings after it draws you deep into the track. reminds me of Bjork's production on Selmasongs or even Radiohead around the OK Computer and Kid A era. Michael's vocals are (IMHO) perfectly suited to this sort of music, and while his previous man-with-band acts were outstanding (think the Stills, etc), this synthesis seems more natural.

in any case, you can see him around NYC often. he's played the Bowery Ballroom, Piano's, and many other of the popular haunts. so keep an eye open for Seems So Bright, and see 'em live. there are more MP3's on their site, but these tracks were rehosted by the robots because their server is kinda slow.

Dear JPizzle

I am a Robot named Ima. I chanced upon your website after Googling "white boys can dance" and am deeply interested in your thoeries of modern music. However, you jacked my brethren Robot's (of www.tinymixtape.com)'s idea with the Robot & mixtape fetish. This is lame, like a lame duck which is lame because it has been shotten by a hunter. This is all tangentially related to the fact that you teach my human counterpart Carmen Riley in Moroccan dancing & microbiologizzle.

Please contact me via radio waves, which are so sweet. Sweet like a ninja, or the sweetness of a mosquito which sucked the blood of a dinosaur and then was frozen in a sweet sweet drop of amber and suspended for all eternity until scientists unfrozed it and reclaimed its DNA and made another dinosaur for use in a Jurassic Park III film.

ByeByeBye

P.S. (Is what the alphabet would look like if you took out Q and R!): Nihon ni itta toki, ninja ni aimashita. Ninjakun wa, sera sha-man no hou ga ichiban baka da to iteimashita!!! Sugoi neeeee!!!

wow, i thought this guy dropped into NY oblivion. i knew Loveski (pron.: lo-VESS-kee) here in wilmington. jammed with him some here and there. recorded an excellent version of Buckley's "Once i Was" together... Buckley. one (or two) of Michael's hero(es), other than his newer namesake, Nina Simone.
we actually collabo'd on a song a few years ago, coming off a rather mean Fugazi show in Raleigh, w/me angered by my keys snapping off in my car door. it inspired a debacle called "Ignition", which Mike, two years later (and this was a year ago, when he came to support my old band @ CBGB) said was "brilliant" but remains unfinished.
thanks for posting good music by a truly nice guy. and if you should know how to get in touch with him, remind him to get that bitch done and sell it to one of those labels. and to pick up a phone and holla at a motherfucker sometime.
keep up the good work.
peace, b

Quelle fromage!!!

I apologize on my beloved brother Ima's behalf; his binary skill(z) have been depleted since he started mainlining Febreeze.

He is prone to speaking in Japanese and disparaging certain antagonistic senior girls, but his more elemental dorkage abilities seem to have been left intact.

i'd like to retain the ability to, perhaps, look jp in the eye, or even engage in friendly conversation-- and keeping this in mind, feel the need to take this time to, in the least stalkerish manner possible, point out that the above posts were in fact made by a 1 (one) kate riley, as opposed to a cameron (or carmen) riley. it should be self evident, as such witiscisms rarely originate from my own mind.

no worries all. it is a public forum. just keep in mind that you might not be the only ones reading it.
