Hey bub, yer shoe's untied...

ain't no hausefrau
"Dead Wrong" and "Tomorrow's Sky" by Frausdots -- Man, in these desperate feeling times, I am once again turning to music for some kind of solace - two days ago it was all the pissed off political punk Mark posted, last night and today it is sad/pretty rock. I gotta tell you all what a fetish for this here "shoegazey" rock 'n' roll I have... yeah, yeah, you know like Jesus & Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine - those names get thrown around an awful lot, and I really do love both bands. But here's a confession for you: I don't own a full album by either band - I should, but I just haven't bought any of them (Shhh, don't tell the indie kids).

Anyway, when you listen to 'Dead' or 'Tomorrow', picture Interpol, but much prettier, thanks in no small part to Michelle Loiselle's backing vocals, oh, and add a bit of Power, Corruption & Lies-era New Order sitting there, helping engineer at the boards, and the result is damn good - rich and dreamy. According to their bio, Frausdots was founded by Brent Rademaker - formerly of shoegazer outfit Further, and still a member of the Tyde (with his brother Darren) and Beachwood Sparks - and Michelle Loiselle (whose only previous experience was singing back-up with Guns & Roses) - they were inspired by seeing the Cure play in Spain in 2002, they fell in love, and the resulting band's music is flooded with a growing imagery that includes “stylish addiction, eternal search for warmth, fashion death trends, unbearable light and the desert at night, exploring the deepest darkness of the forest and emerging higher than the sun and making contact beyond the sun.”

Sounds like it should be pretty heavy sounding shit, but at the same time they also succeed as pop songs. On the album, titled Couture, Couture, Couture, there are also contributions from Mia Doi Todd and members of the Cure, Warlocks, the Tyde, Rooney and Brian Jonestown Massacre (wha?!?) - quite the pedigree, right? These two songs are the first and last tracks on the cd, respectively, and I think they should give you a good idea of what they're all about. Oh, this is a Sub Pop release by the way - once again proving that the northwestern big-indie label still knows what they're doing. Buy the CD here or on iTunes.

All the bands you described seem to be rolled into one song by the Shocking Pinks, "Every"(track 4) off their new cd. Not sure if you have heard it yet, but it is INCREDIBLE. I think it's the best song of the year. check it out!! (don't let the intro fool you.) I love how perfectly it summarizes 2003-2004. Pitchfork had a good description of it somewhat, but they failed to mention the obvious Jesus and Mary Chain influences (vocals) and my bloody valentine like freakout.
