Because robots love to Dance too

Warren Zevon

"Catch (Dub Version)" by Sun La Shan -- As the regular readers here at music for robots know, every now and then, I like to dip into my musical vault and pull out something really interesting, really out there, really far afield from the usual every-day postings. As such, today I present a little slice of seriously genius-level Italo Disco, coming back up from the underground...

"Catch" has all the makings of italo perfection: driving basslines, slick synths, the heaviest beat this side of Daft Punk, and, of course, hand-claps - where would dance music be today without hand-claps? I went with the Dub side of the record because the vocals are a little much for this day and age, but still this just the kind of record some of the best DJs are using these days - see for instance the new Unclassics mix cd by Morgan Geist, out now on Environ.

This 12" was released in 1982, and came in red, blue or white vinyl - talk about hot! My copy is white, or off-white really, with 22 years of age to it. If I thought anyone could get ahold of a copy of the vinyl without paying a fortune for it, I'd happily present a link for you, but here's a subtitute: I-Robots: Italo Electro Disco Underground Classics - a whole cd worth of seriously good Italo disco gems, including the Lectric Workers "Robot Is Systematic" that I posted here a while back and Alexander Robotnic's "Dance Boy Dance."

Happy Monday!
