It's the Scene in Reverse

Dumbwaiters Musick'
Dumbwaiters - Panik. From the upcoming Musick (screw music forever) album, Panik comes off like a synth-driven noise core Led Zepplin. I'm not talking about the primative metal riffage of Zepplin -- I'm talking more about the stoned out mellotron noodling with some of the epic "Achilles Last Stand" shit thrown in there. I personally fucking love that stuff, and I love hearing that sound recast for the '05. I would love to see this shit performed live. I can close my eyes and see hordes of screaming Floridians pogoing with madness.

The album was supposed to drop in November, but I'm not sure what happened. As it stands, you can look for it in February. I'll remind you. It's worth it. This album is nuts. It's got variety -- from moody instrumentals to face-melting rockers. It's hard not to get caught up in it.

I mean, we hear all kinds of shit about PROG coming back into indie rock, and frankly I'm just not buying it. But then I hear a band like Dumbwaiters and I can't help but hear grandiose organic 70s rock at its best. The thumping keys, the spiraling lines, the relentless snare hits. It's all there. You should all definitely listen to this, and mark your calendars for February when this drops.

*bonus*

Magneta Lane'
In other Prerelease news, Magneta Lane has a new 7" single coming out in February. Paper Bag Records is nice enough to offer up one of the tracks from the upcoming single:

Magneta Lane - Cheap Linguistics.

We don't often post groups more than once here, especially in such close proximity, but I really like this group. I keep listening to the EP over and over again. While my initial reaction was "Great, the Strokes with girls" -- there's a lot more to it than that. This band just plain kicks ass. It's good driving music, working music, dancing music. It's all things to all people. These little canadian ladies have really --excuse the pun-- struck a chord here. The EP is well worth owning, and I'm sure the new 7" is as well. The single will be limited to only 250 copies.

You can pick up the girls' debut EP The Constant Lover directly from Paper Bag Here.

no it is -- these guys are from Tampa. Why?

Ah. Because they sound nothing like the band I saw a few times back in '97 or so, and because I hadn't heard anything about that particular band in three or four years. Glad to know they're still around.
