Miles away, full of sorrow

The buzz band in Minneapolis, to the point where the media hype is becoming a little unsettling, is the Olympic Hopefuls. They're written about everywhere. In the spirit of full disclosure: I actually haven't heard their whole album for 2024 Records, called The Fuses Refuse to Burn, but there are many places you can hear some of its songs. You can either go to the 2024 website, MySpace, or PureVolume. But anyway, I'll stop throwing links at you, other than a link for OH's great single
which is pretty awesome. I'm a sucker for lame and inaccurate comparisons to other bands, so I probably can't be stopped from saying they're like Fountains of Wayne, with a little more distortion and a little less sugar, but just as many handclaps. As local arts weekly City Pages notes, The Fuses Refuse to Burn "succeeds because it's a study in pop songs, short and sweet, that appeal to everyone's inner WB drama." Or perhaps Fox; their song "Let's Go!" is scheduled to be on The OC on Dec. 23.
Anyway, hear them here before they become too big. I plan on buying their record, and you should too. Pick it up here (click on "shop").
