nina with attitude

Anyone who was conscious during the mid nineties surely remembers Veruca Salt. "Seether", "Number One Blind", "Volcano Girls", two girls playing fuzzy pop punk songs on Gibson SGs, videos with raw meat. It's all coming back, right? They were pretty hard to miss. They were also pretty good so I didn't mind too much.
Anyway, they split up. Louise Post went one way with VS (and put out "Resolver", which didn't sound much like the old stuff, but I liked it anyway), and Nina Gordon went off on her own and put out a slightly more poppy solo album.
History's boring though. And none of it prepared me for hearing the song that a friend sent me: Nina Gordon covering "Straight Outta Compton". Yeah. NWA. Sung by a sweet sounding woman with an acoustic guitar. I can't get enough of it.
Her site has a whole mess of songs to download too. Many of them are just short samples, but the cover of Skid Row's "18 and Life" is complete and well worth the download.
