Its a Block Party!

buzzzzzz
"Banquet" by Bloc Party

Yeah, so these guys are another hugely hyped band at the moment - the song and video for "Banquet" comes from their self-titled EP, released last year on Dim Mak (available here) - I'm just catching onto them now because, although I'd heard their song "She's Hearing Voices" last year, I wasn't too thrilled by it - its good, don't get me wrong, but it didn't really catch me that much.

Then today, I was looking through my bookmarks and checked out the Bloc Party site again after a few months away, and lo and behold there's tons more songs available on their music page, and there's loads of other videos too... I checked this one out and it got me all excited again. The guitars and drums are damn near perfection, and Kele Okereke's vocals are as sharp as his lyrics.

The best news is that their LP, Silent Alarm, comes out in March and is being jointly released by Dim Mak and Vice Records. Zing! Keep your eyes and ears peeled for these guys - they're looking to be big in '05!

that's the only track of theirs i like. everything else is just kinda blah IMO.

I do not agree, they have alot of other good songs. Like 'little thoughts', 'the tulips' and 'staying fat' for an example. I am really looking forward to their LP realese.

(I love this place, keep up the good work robots!)

I'm surprised at you Blair.. I thought you'd be posting the 'Phones Disco Mix'. It's superb.

And Ryan.. you should check 'Positive Tension'. Even better than this IMHO.

Heh - yeah, I also really like Tulip and the Answer - I played this last night at my gig and people came up and asked what it was saying they liked it. That's enough for me to opine that its a good track... and that Phones Disco Mix - its good, but thus far anyway, I like the original more ;)

you know the site you mentioned (www.blocparty.net) is a fansite, right? their official site is www.blocparty.com although, as is often the case, the fansite is more up-to-date.

ps. us lucky brits get the album on valentine's day :P

The LP is excellent; not as dance-punk (or whatever) as the EP may have made people think, imo. she's hearing voices is re-recorded and better.

Great to see Bloc Party getting a run here! I think both Helicopter and Banquet are amazing songs - that album is going to be huge in Australia.
The Phones Disco Mix is totally useful for getting people dancing though, in a similar way to the Britt Daniel remix of Slow Hands (Interpol).
