Got the Rolie on My Arm

Politics!
Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle.

Sebastien Tellier (sorry, his site is french only) was the first signee to Air's Record Makers label, and it definitely shows. You might also recognize him from the Lost in Translation soundtrack. Somewhere between the smooth, lounge sex of Air and the Hall & Oates rock/soul of Phoenix, Tellier is crafting sweeping string movements and bone-dry snare beats. I think this song is beautiful, as is the rest of the album.

Don't let the crazy face on the cover fool you. He's not France's answer to Andrew WK or whatever, although he does appear to be a little crazy. The album is one of pure French pop. It's excellent. Although it came out in 2004, it never got a US release. If you're interested, you can pick it up on import from Amazon.

I agree that politics is a great record, but calling it pure french pop might be a little bit off... this album is terribly strange.

right -- it's definitely not a normal record, but it's also definitely from france... if that makes sense.

This is such a great song, I'm really hoping that this album will show up somewhere in my city this year.

this song is brilliant - first heard it on gilles peterson's show....is this track representative of the rest of the album?

no, it's not. i just ordered it from amazon as an import. it cost me 30 bucks and there is nothing as good as or like this track on the rest of the album. proceed with extreme caution.

Please, check L'Incroyable Vérité (his 1st RecordMakers album). Far, far greater than Politics.
