With Chairs Lined Up Straight

Violence in the Snowy Fields
Dolorean - The Righteous Shall Destroy the Precious Al James is Dolorean. It's obviously hard not to mention the stainless steel failure of the automobile world that is the band's namesake, but we'll get over it. The music is based around simple, acoustic melodies, with bass and drum backing and the occasional overdub vocals. This quiet song that builds and builds and continues to build is just what yI want to hear this morning. Although it was supposed to rain all week, the clouds have broken and the sun is out. I don't really think that's what James is singing about, but right now it's working. And just when you think the song can't build anymore, it breaks suddenly-- stripped down to just guitar and James' whistle, and slowly builds again.

The track comes off of the excellent Violence in the Snowy Fields album. You can pick it up directly from their label, Yep Roc for about 12 bucks. I love the album. The production quality is excellent, and an even mood is sustained throughout.

Dolorean is currently on tour. They'll be at the awesome Hotel Cafe here in Los Angeles on Sunday. They'll be at Pianos in NYC on March 25th (with lots of other dates in between).

I adore this band. I saw them play at CMJ last year, to about 10 people, 5 of whom were the main act, and they were stunning. Can't wait for the Pianos show - thanks for writing them up. If you get a copy of their first EP, please let me know!

I wrote about it on Verbose Coma - http://blog.verbosecoma.com/archives/000512.php
