flip it, flip it good
if the m.f-r night at APT had an informal musical theme, it mighta been blair and jp's "holy crap Tiefschwarz is fucking awesome" night. and they really are master remixers (take a look at their remix rap sheet), and brothers to boot. this track came to me courtesy of Woody, and I wasted no time in tracking down my own copy. it's possibly the best 12" I own currently:

DJTAL - Digital World (Tiefschwarz remix)
holy. crap. now, this ARTOFDISCO 12" series is something to speak of in its own right - an original electro/italo disco classic reissue on the A side, and a remix (that's usually excellent) on the flip. they're released infrequently on Yellow Records, and though they come in little blorps of vinyl, you can still find them floating around on Gemm.com if you look [carefully enough].
this original for this song, DJTal's Digital World, is a slow (90 bpm), melodic and utterly breathtaking synth-y disco track. the entire thing builds slowly, bringing you back again and again to a warm chorus that features heavily synthed vocal samples singing the song title. but wait... what's this on the b-side? Tiefschwarz takes the track and goes totally bananas with it, cranking it up to a pumping house tempo, and giving it a gritty edge to even out those smooth synth keys. the slow rhythmic build draws you along as the layers are piled up, and in the end you're left with one of the most rediculous dance tracks I've heard in ages. poppy synth keys, growly bass samples, and tones of the original that remind you where this songs inherent beauty stems from. it might not be easy to track down, but this 12" (or any in this series) come highly recommended.
