Small World

its a bluff
"Minaret Red Suit Puppet" by the Bluffs

So, over the past few weeks that I've been playing out, and advertising the fact on this site, people have been giving me CDs of their band, their friend's band, their mom's band, etc. Sometimes this is awesome, sometimes less-so, but either way, I'm really excited to get new music from total strangers. One of the better discs I've been given was the Demo cd of these guys' work.

The Bluffs are 2 brothers, Ian and Noel Savage. Ian used to play guitar for a Brooklyn noise-band called Hominid (that broke up after putting out a 7" on Vice Records and touring with the Fall). Noel makes the beats and jams on the bass. Their sound references (according to their bio, which is awesome) "Men Without Hats being repeatedly beaten over the head by Glenn Branca weilding a mpc 2000." I personally dig on their at times explosive, bass-heavy sound, and really like their harmonic vocal style. They told me they're from Maine, "gahdam bah hahbah" to be exact, which futher illustrates how small this city (NYC) and world can be.

They're currently shopping for a label (hint hint to any A&R folks) and playing out and about the city this spring. The first of which is March 2nd at the Delancey (Delancey at the manhattan end of the williamsburg bridge) for the Death Disco party (a fun spot). They'll also be playing a Toddp party on 6th of March (w/ my boys Japanther and Toys That Kill) and then at Lit for Vice Records on the 22nd.

They don't have a website yet, but you can email the band at the_bluffs79 "at" yahoo.com (note the correction - sorry to whoever the_bluffs at yahoo.com is) - they have a website under construction (thebluffsband.com) and you can also stalk them on myspace.com.
I'll keep you all informed when I hear more from these guys, as I think they've got something good going on, for real.
