Stuck Between the Green Grass

Illegal Tender
Louis XIV - Marc

I know that Matthew got into some fire when he posted this band the other day, but I don't think my commentary is going to be nearly as controversial. For one thing, I haven't paid too much attention to these guy's lyrics, for whatever reason.

Anyway, San Diego's Louis XIV are a hard band to figure out. The single that Matthew posted is all over the radio here in Los Angeles. I hated it at first. I thought it was annoying and silly and reminded me of a joke band, like Liam Lynch or something. But the more I heard it, the more it grew on me. So when I got the EP in the mail the other day, I wasn't surprised to find that I liked it. They're not just a one-trick pony... they've got at least two.

On this one they sound like the best elements of Glam, with delay-heavy snares, falsetto harmonies, piano and thick ol' guitar solos. It's not quite slow as molasses, but it's close, reminding me a little bit of LCD's "never as tired as when I'm waking up," in that sleepy Pink Floyd way. Kid tries to play guitar like he's harrison too, which is funny.

You can order the Illegal Tender EP from our friends at Insound for a few dollars. You can preorder the The Best Little Secrets Are Kept LP from Insound as well. Enter the code LOUIS15 at checkout to get 15% off and a free photo book.

Bloc Party's Troubadour show was sold out. I was able to buy a ticket for the Glasshouse show today, so there's still some available.

Yeah, that Whitey remix is tight. Can't wait to see how high his star rises this year.
