You're embarassing me, you're embarassing you

Hot Hot Heat, the pride of Canada, is coming out with a new record, Elevator, on April 5. Though their last album, the incredible Make Up the Breakdown, was on Sub Pop, this one's on Warner Bros., which essentially makes them labelmates with REM, Paul Simon, Snoop Dogg, Lindsay Lohan and Alanis Morrisette. The usual suspects, of course, have predicted the downfall of a great band, but I for one am really excited about the new label: it gives the chance for Hot Hot Heat to reach many, many more people, and from what I understand, the WB people haven't bothered the band too much. Though this is old news to people who follow such things, Warner Bros. is also nice enough to post the new single, perfect for a Friday night:
Hot Hot Heat - Goodnight Goodnight
They also just posted this track from the new one:
Hot Hot Heat - Island of the Honest Man
The band has gone to great lengths to tell fans that they haven't changed the Cure-meets-caffeine formula of Breakdown. "We wanted to make an unapologetic, bold pop record," said Bays in Rolling Stone a couple weeks ago. Good thing, because Hot Hot Heat are already really fucking fun. I saw them last week here in Minneapolis, and it was all pogo-ing and screaming along to "Bandages" and "This Town". I know a lot of people complain about all-ages shows, but it was so awesome to see high school kids bouncing around and swooning after lead singer Steve Bays and his Sideshow Bob hair. The show was like eating pixy stix for an hour and twenty minutes. Here's hoping that doesn't change.
