You're embarassing me, you're embarassing you

big red hand

Hot Hot Heat, the pride of Canada, is coming out with a new record, Elevator, on April 5. Though their last album, the incredible Make Up the Breakdown, was on Sub Pop, this one's on Warner Bros., which essentially makes them labelmates with REM, Paul Simon, Snoop Dogg, Lindsay Lohan and Alanis Morrisette. The usual suspects, of course, have predicted the downfall of a great band, but I for one am really excited about the new label: it gives the chance for Hot Hot Heat to reach many, many more people, and from what I understand, the WB people haven't bothered the band too much. Though this is old news to people who follow such things, Warner Bros. is also nice enough to post the new single, perfect for a Friday night:

Hot Hot Heat - Goodnight Goodnight

They also just posted this track from the new one:

Hot Hot Heat - Island of the Honest Man

The band has gone to great lengths to tell fans that they haven't changed the Cure-meets-caffeine formula of Breakdown. "We wanted to make an unapologetic, bold pop record," said Bays in Rolling Stone a couple weeks ago. Good thing, because Hot Hot Heat are already really fucking fun. I saw them last week here in Minneapolis, and it was all pogo-ing and screaming along to "Bandages" and "This Town". I know a lot of people complain about all-ages shows, but it was so awesome to see high school kids bouncing around and swooning after lead singer Steve Bays and his Sideshow Bob hair. The show was like eating pixy stix for an hour and twenty minutes. Here's hoping that doesn't change.
You can pre-order Elevator here, or from Insound here.

You don't know how psyched I am about the new cd. I have this habit of listening to make up the breakdown for like a week straight and then not for like two months, untill I "rediscover" them. April 5, I can't wait!

I saw them last night, and they were absolutely amazing.. not just in comparison to louis xiv. The new stuff sounded pretty awesome and I'm really anticipating the album.

i live in montreal, a.k.a. home of current flash-in-the-pan canadian act, arcade fire. what is the with the U.S. obsession with mediocre canadian acts?

have you guys posted anything by les georges leningrad? if not, this, off their last album would be a good choice: http://www.alien8recordings.com/MP3/supadoopa.mp3

"...it gives the chance for Hot Hot Heat to reach many, many more people, and from what I understand, the WB people haven't bothered the band too much." Hmm. Over the years, I've heard this about many bands and artists who are no longer with us. Not to be a jerk, but just how will they reach more people? Better slots on late night TV? More airplay on MTV2? Placement in WalMart? Seriously, if they are getting a better deal, great, but how being on WB gives them a better chance to "break" is not clear to me. There is a long list, back to Husker Du and the Replacements, of bands that didn't exactly benefit from the WB connection. Remember Suddenly, Tammy? Hope I'm wrong, wrong, wrong...
