Monday Madness

Well, its Monday and the fact that I've reached the middle of the day feels like an achievement - I know it will be one of those weeks, so I'm trying to get things started off right, and that's where the Brazilian Girls come in. The band formed in 2003 in NYC, after jamming together every week at downtown club Nublu, and recorded the 12 tracks for their debut album whenever they were in the same place at the same time. The band is from all over the place: Sabina (who sings in five different languages: German, French, Italian, Spanish, and English) was born in Rome, and raised in Munich and Nice; Didi is from Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Jesse and Aaron are from California and Kansas, respectively. BG are on the Verve sub-label Verve Forcast, so they've got some label-power behind them, which is definitely good for them. You can purchase their debut album (or their Lazy Lover EP) on vinyl or cd here.
This remix comes courtesy of this dirty Brit, Riton, who is on the Grand Central label, a Manchester-based hot-spot for underground Hip-Hop and ass-shaking dance music. Riton's been producing and remixing for a few years now, and at this point he has really established himself - his debut for GC (his second overall) is called Homies & Homos (which you can buy here if you live in the UK, or here in the US). His production style is all about making you dance, with a deep drop-bass sound, and filthy analog-synths galore - I think his work sounds a bit similar to a couple of my other favorites, Black Strobe and Tiefschwarz. Earlier this year, Riton met up with Ben Fat Trucker and formed the Gucci sound system, and since then their dj partnership has rapidly been gathering momentum and is going so well they have moved into production together. I can't wait to hear what kind of hijinks they get up to.
Those "Brazilians" are playing in NYC March 16th at Bowery Ballroom, March 19th at Eternal in Austin, March 24th for the International Dance Music Awards in MIAMI, and March 29th at The Roxy in West Hollywood, so check them out if you get the chance - their live show is supposed to be top-notch.

PS: Saturday night's Modular show was mind-bending - Wolfmother were total rock 'n' roll fire, Cut Copy did an amazing job of translating a studio-album to the live stage, and Bumblebeez81 were hilarious and high-energy mayhem.
Yesterday's chill-out afternoon with Hot Chip at APT was also awesome - they're super nice guys, and the APT DJs and staff continue to amaze me.
Go see Hot Chip (and Maximo Park!!!) at Rothko tonight, and go see Cut Copy and Wolfmother at Tribeca Lounge tomorrow! Do it!
