weekend update

To add to the NYC events from the left coast news desk:

The Hysterics have their (I think) NYC debut show Sunday, March 20th at Crash Mansion (199 Bowery in Manhattan). This is an all ages show, with doors opening around 5pm. Hysterics go on at 7pm.

Also, for those of you who are type-A like I am, mark those calendars! The band of the moment and one of the best venues in NYC are bringing you those salty dance music freaks Out Hud at the Bowery Ballroom on April 23rd. I'd be there shaking my skinny ass in the front row, but one of my stupid best friends had to go plan a wedding for that weekend. The rest of you can and should [buy tickets] (it will sell out) and go gape in awe. In my humble opinion, this is the best live show I've seen in NYC. twice.

Comments

Local Minneapolis band Full Stack is having it's second ever show at Station 4 in St. Paul at 9pm on April 5th. Free comps for the show can be found at www.fullstack.net.
If you are looking for a new, thick sound that will bring back all that was good about the guitar-rock of the 70s, 80s and 90s please check us out at www.fullstack.net.
We could use a label as well!

My name is Glen, and I'm 45 years old. I am a musician who lives in Seattle, Washington. I recently purchased the Drake and Josh soundtrack for my 11 year old son, Jacob. I heard Hysterics' song "Uptight Staircase", and to my surprise, the 'we're absentees' melody and chords were straight out of one of my compositions. While mine aren't copywrited so I could not take any legal action, it is still disheartening. Oliver Ignatius, you have ruined my song. Funny, innit it?

Sincerely,

Glen Alderak, guitarist and songwriter for the Phenom 5

go fuck yourself, phenom 5, i have no idea who you are.

Posted by: oliver at March 20, 2005 1:06 PM

Dude you guys seriously rock...its amazing how you guys are so young and have to much talent!

and when are you guys coming out with a cd?

Posted by: Emily Teceno at March 20, 2005 1:47 PM

Glen, are you kidding? you're faulting a bunch of 15 year old kids for writing a song that's similar to a chord progression from your nonexistent song by a band that a thorough Google search yields no record of? how is it they would have heard this "composition," seeing as to how they're stuck in Brooklyn, and from what I can tell there's no Phenom 5 music to be found anywhere online? and you're saying he ruined your song? look man, from a 45 year old who hasn't even gone so far as to copyright a mastered track, that sort of hate just make you look old, bitter, and petty. you should be happy that there are similarities between your song and theirs - if anything it might bring a fresh new audience to whatever it is you're doing up there in the northwest.

the better question might be to ask why a 45 year old is getting upset about melodies that a bunch of kids could write...

How about I pee in your face, Oliver? Would you enjoy it? I'm sure the Enquirer would love to hear about that one. "Rising Star Urinated On By Bitter Experienced Musician."

Sincerely,

Glen Alderak, guitarist and songwriter for the Phenom 5

Posted by: Jez Stevens at March 20, 2005 5:05 PM

You say "live life to the fullest"? Have fun, Jizz Stevens. And I apologize for my son's mutiny, I've subsequently banned him from listening to the Drake And Josh soundtrack, and now he must spend the entire afternoon listening to the new Phenom 5 EP, "Vertebrae(GBR)." We're big in England. Well, not big, per se, but we're on our way. Oh and Jizz Stevens, how about I old fart in your face? I'm sure it will complement the urine in Oliver's.

Sincerely,

Glen Alderak, guitarist and songwriter for the Phenom 5, and kicker of Oliver's pansy ass, as well as my son's

Oh, and the bassist's afro is rather intimidating. I could probably kick his ass in a fight too, just by principle.

Nerdy nerdy nerd.

Nerdy nerdy nerd.

P.S. Who the fuck is Sophia Castleman? Sounds like a made up name, if you ask me. Same with Reno Gluco. Oliver, is there something you want to tell us about your 'fans'?

Hey Oliver, don't fret, I bet Glen Alderak is just some 16 year old kid who lives in Queens who is insanely jealous of Hysterics.

violets right.

Posted by: Charlie at March 20, 2005 5:23 PM

Violet and Charlie, I invite you two to personally fly over to Seattle, Washington, and look my address up. I live right near the Pike Place Market, where they sell those delicious honey straws. You guys can come over, and I'll pee in your faces too. By the way, here's a Seattle band that completely trumps you:

www.nothankyou.com

They're genuinely excellent.

Not so sincerely,

Glen Alderak, guitarist and songwriter for the Phenom 5

Posted by: Glen Alderak at March 20, 2005 5:31 PM

alright you guys, enough.

and Glen, offering to urinate in a minor's face is a little too R-Kelly for this site. if you are 45 and have an 11 year old son, get your priorities straight.
