supa buraza!

while they've been around since the mid-90's, I've only recently discovered the electronic/dance label Cosmic Flux. in the vein of Blair's recent post, they began with an EP called Mosaic by Lucid Dream (aka John Tejada), and have put out a some 20 or so releases since then focusing on west coast house (the really soulful whoa-whoa-whoa-baby stuff), but also including more jazz-informed hip-hop releases and a few artists from Japan, including Hideo Kobayashi.
this track is bananas. it's got nutso-bossa drums that pound away at your skull while the chanteuse croons away in nihongo, with a heavy sprinkle of organ keys giving it a warm, smooth feel overall. the singer, Sae Minohara, is most likely a product of the super-secret Japan/Brazil cohabitation project, and sings the original (this track) in Japanese while the B side is in Brazillian Portugese). it rings heavy with tones reminiscent of early Pizzicato Five, a much lighter version of Bjork's I Miss You, or even something from the bonkers/brillaint Katamari Damashii soundtrack.
if you like soulful dance and electronic music akin to what you hear on Morcheeba's Back to Mine, check out the other releases on Cosmic Flux, and check out more of Hideo's stuff on his website, or just go see him DJ if you're in or near Nagoya. it's hard to track down his music, but you can browse a number of his releases [on Gemm] or peep his discog. tanoshinde ne?
