Same Problem As Usual

Somewhere between Godspeed you! Black Emperor and Prefuse 73 is Leeds' Hood. They've been crafting their low-fi, orchestral cut and paste rock for more than 10 years, with a discography as long as my arm. Last year they came out with The Lost You ep to preview this year's Outside Closer album, with this track appearing on both. The song chugs along on fierce percussive pistons, with vocal melodies swirling in one channel and out the other. It's that wonderful kind of dreamy post-rock tension that I'm a huge fan of. It's the type of music that only comes from cold wet climates, like England, Canada and Scotland.
This new album on Domino is not nearly as glitchy as their last one, Cold House, and doesn't have any emcees on it (except for some glottal pops from Dose One). It's much more post-rock than hip hop this time around, but it's cool to see the band constantly changing. Both the album and the EP are worth having, if you're a fan of this type of music.
You can buy the Lost You EP or the Outside Closer LP from our friends at Insound. You can catch them on tour tonight (Friday) at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco, or Saturday night at the Knitting Factory in LA.
