Babs, give it to me

Many of you know that I'm a sucker for electronic music, especially when there is something going on that pulls an emotional response out of me. There is something about melodic electro in particular that really pulls at my heartstrings (see anything by Ellen Allien for more), and this track, the first track off the new Morgenstern & Lippok album Tesri, really does it. Something about this track's rhythm and electronic squiggles really gets to me - it pulls elements from all over the map, with the essence of Detroit techno and early electro beats, melding a pop-structure with warm synth tones and a melody that just set my head spinning.
Tesri is an Arab-rooted Turkish word meaning "to accelerate" - the title was inspired by separate visits by Morgenstern and Lippok to Istanbul. Hailing from Berlin, Barbara Morgenstern has been a fixture on the German electronic scene since 1996, and has worked with such German electronic-music luminaries as Console (part of the Notwist), neo-electronic-dub artist Pole, and members of the experimental group To Rococco Rot, where she connected with bandmember Robert Lippok - Lippok and Morgenstern have been working together on and off since 2002, recording tracks for the album, which finally sees its release this May.
Also featured on the album are vocalist Damon Aaron, from Telefon Tel Aviv, who has a solo album out soon on robot favorites Plug Research, and London-based Japanese musician, Mieko Shimozo. Tesri is released on Monika Records, who has also released fine works by Contriva, Quarks (who's "I Walk" was remixed by Superpitcher to massive acclaim), and Figurine. Monika's releases are distributed by another robot favorite, Kompakt, so look to Forced Exposure, Insound and any other fine independant resellers to get your own copy of the CD, starting May 1st.
