Da Beatminerz - Came 2 Do (feat. Wordsworth)
Da Beatminerz are DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt, and are about as hip-hop pedigree as you can get. they've been around for a minute and then some (name checked in a Tribe Called Quest lyric: "What's Music Factory without Mr. Walt?"), hailing from Bushwick, Brooklyn, and are true master beat craftsmen. this track backs the 12" of Mafia Don, their lead single from their new LP, Fully Loaded with Statik, which hit stores this week [buy it at Insound], and features guest spots by KRS-1, Dialated, Jean Grae and personal favorite Mystic.
the emcee work on both sides of this 12" is good, but the production shines. Mafia Don has this insane dubbed-out beat with a deadly vocal hook, and the airtight production on this track gives it a heavy machanical feel, with organ blasts, DJ cuts, and vocals hitting you from all sides. well, up to the goofy kids at the end of it. these guys have been in the trenches of quality hip-hop since nearly the inception, and it shows.
