NEMHF 2005

I haven't posted here in a while so I'll try to make up for it with an extra large helping of extra heavy metal and hardcore.

Tomorrow i'm heading off to the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival (NEMHF) in Worcester, Mass. Three days of loud music. I'm practically trembling in anticipation. :)

The schedule is amazing. I was dissapointed that Nightwish dropped from the lineup, but I'll get over it. Between Obituary, Hatebreed, Bleeding Through, Dark Tranquility, Strapping Young Lad, Walls of Jericho, and Dead to Fall, I should be able to console myself.

Other bands I'm particularly keen to see: Nora, Premonitions of War, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, With Honor, A Life Once Lost, The Red Chord, Bury Your Dead, Sonata Arctica (I've heard good things about them but haven't had a chance to check them out yet), Terror, God Forbid, Chimaira (I didn't really like them at first but they grow on me each time I see them live), Danzig, Darkest Hour, Most Precious Blood, Cannae, Evergreen Terrace, Behemoth, Hypocrisy, Soilwork, King Diamond, Mnemic, and Cephalic Carnage.

And of course, if this festival goes like past ones, there'll be at least a couple bands that I've never heard of before who blow me away and will be the subjects of a followup post here next week.

Now, some tunes. Here are a couple tracks from some of the (undeservedly) lesser known bands on the lineup:

I'm really hoping that they've made some improvements to how the festival is run compared to last year though. The lineup is amazing, but the venue is pretty terrible. The second stage area is tiny and impossible to get into or out of. There isn't really anywhere to sit down in the whole place and take a break. There isn't really any food for sale inside the venue (just over-priced, shitty beer) and they don't allow re-entry after 6pm while the show lasts till 1am. That means seven hours straight standing with no food. For three days in a row. To top it off, last year there was a three hour long power outage on Saturday afternoon that caused shortened sets and a confused schedule for the rest of the day. We keep coming back because of the music, but jesus, how much do they really expect fans to endure?
