They'll Never Leave You

The LovekevinsThe LoveKevins - Blame The English. I have been in constant search for a good pop single. Last year at this time we had a few awesome songs to choose from, but this year we got nothing. Where are the soaring melodies? The High Harmonies? The optimism? Well, we here at Music For Robots, we leave no stone unturned-- even it means going to Sweden. And while this isn't necessarily in contention for THE Summer Jam of '05, this track from the LoveKevins is one of the most heart-achingly beautiful pop melodies I've heard in ages. It's got the pop sensibilities of something like Weezer or Fountains of Wayne, but enough twists and turns to keep you from singing along right away. It's absolutely perfect in execution, production and theme. I could listen to it all day. And with the rains in Los Angeles today, a song like this makes you forget all about the poison falling outside.

Anyway, this comes off a 4-track 7". You can mailorder it Direct from their label (just click on the "Mail Order" link and scroll down to buy). I'm not sure of the band's history or any of that. I actually just heard the song today, but felt highly enough of it to post it immediately. If that's not endorsement enough, I don't know what it. And to be honest, credit has to go to my friend hollywood mormon girl for the discovery. She normally just keeps her eye on all the dirty LA bands, but I guess her finger is on the international pulse today. Be sure to check her out.

Every song on the 7" is this awesome. I highly recommend it. Hopefully they'll record some more, and maybe even come to the states at some point. Maybe one of our friendly US labels will take a liking.

Yeah, the song got better after the first listen, but I think comparing them to Weezer was a little misleading (I hear a little Fountains of Wayne though). That guitar line and drum beat is pretty cool though.

I would surely want to hear more though. The Futureheads will save indie pop.

Sounds like a lost British Invasion band with a touch of American earnestness (which is where Weezer comes in, I think). Good stuff--thanks!
