Kariboo Bird Hoose

still ... not an elkCaribou - Medium Sized Working Dog (Steady Steady)

As you probably already know Caribou is currently on a huge North American tour right now, somewhere in Texas as I write this and making their way towards the US west coast. I don’t feel like I need to repeat what Blair’s already said in an earlier post, but maybe a recap: the three piece band, formerly Manitoba, and fronted by Dan Snaith is just an amazing percussion-based electronic rock group. Live everyone was extremely versatile in their instrumentation, switching from drums to guitar, recorder, keyboard and voice. Even the pre-recorded material synthesized the whole experience with orchestrated visuals projected behind the band. I think everyone in the audience wanted to dance, but either we didn’t know how or were too mesmerized by sight and sound. In ten or twenty years from now is this what we’re going to call avant-garde electronic rock?

I’m sorry I’m so late on the ball in getting this out, since it was almost a week ago that I saw them. Go here to see a schedule of current tour dates. This show is highly recommended.

The track above is a song from a new tour only CD self-released by the band, featuring six new songs and one 36 minute dj mix. For now the CD is only available at the Caribou shows on tour, but if some are left over it’s likely they’ll be sold online.

I too saw a Caribou show about a week ago, and I was totally blown away - the furious percussive rock energy from the band was really a sight to see, and the songs they played were simply amazing
