"Laisse Tomber" by Etienne De Champfleury
Here's something interesting: a sweet French vocal, paired with a crisp electro-house beat, with a slippery, buzzing bassline that's also mighty fine. All in all very much reminiscent of some other robot favorites Erlend Øye, Tiefschwarz, the Glimmers, and The Glass. Now, unfortunately, there is really no information available out there on this particular Etienne (and, no, so far as I know, its not De Crecy).
This track comes off a new CD compiled by Larry Tee, called Gentle Electric - on this CD, Tee has moved away from the strictly electro leanings of his earlier compilations, and presents an interesting combination of electronic and rock acts (most of whom incorporate electronics into their sound) - its very pop and quite good overall.
Like many other tracks on the CD, "Laisse Tombervo" was sent to Larry by the artist himself with little to no biographical information. There are a handful of names on the CD that I did recognize, such as Stephin Merritt from the Magnetic Fields (working here as Future Bible Heroes), Black Strobe (who provide their remix talents), Whitey (another robot favorite) and Northern Lite (who team up with Larry Tee on a song).
There are many others whom I don't really know that much about: Math, Rise NYC, Basura Blanca, Somnbulants, Bunnyhug, Random Noise, Tetine, the Aeffect, Receptors and Freezepop. All these different artsts come together as a surprisingly coherent whole, with really pretty synth-pop being the thing that ties them all together - I think the tracks by Whitey and Basura Blance really stand out in this way.
The compilation is released on Tee's label, Mogul Electro, and is available to buy from the online store now!
