Gonna Start My Dynasty Like Dame and Hova
Faith Boogie - Let Me Do My Thang
Faith Boogie - Hey Hey Shorty
When last we met Faith Boogie she was just barely 14, spitting ridiculous rhymes over her own fire-tight beats. It was nothing short of astonishing. A few months later, she's already starting to sound older, and she's definitely honed a few skills in the studio -- both behind the mic and on the boards. She still needs to find her own voice, as both these tracks owe their sound to others on the charts, but she's headed in the right direction.
That sinewy string sample on Hey Hey Shorty is nice and slinky, and it seems obvious that Faith has been listening to M.I.A. a lot lately. Which I think is awesome. Girl is smart, and she knows what she's doing. I think it's just a matter of time before she busts out with something downright amazing. For now we'll have to be satisfied with her current output, which still fires pretty hot.
One of my favorite things about her is that she's focused on her education. She'll entering 9th grade this fall and she's already on the engineering track. And she spits rhymes? Classic. This is what kids need -- a true inspiration. She's not selling herself with sex and diamonds, and she's not putting all her eggs in the hip hop basket. Instead she's focused on her education, and squeezing in studio time and shows when she can. I have a lot of respect for that. Good for Faith.
Amazingly, she has nothing for sale yet... which is a shame. I'm sure it would sell. Especially since she scored a coveted "You Hear it First" segment on MTV (we know all about those...). Anyway, go check her site, and we'll keep you posted when her album drops.
