I had a dream when I was in high school

Paul Green rocks!

I know a lot of other bloggers have posted about this already.
I didn’t, however, want to recommend this film only on merits other than that it’s really quite good.

The Paul Green School of Rock is an after-school program in Philadelphia that in its own words is “the original performance based, interactive music school, [which proceeds] from the belief that the best way to learn to do almost anything is by doing it.”

The documentary generally follows Green and some of his students through a-year-in-the-life-of which culminates in a group performance of his most accomplished students at Zappanale, a Frank Zappa music festival in Bad Doberon, Germany. The characters are all very interesting and entertaining: Green as rock music mentor and tyrant, and the students many who overcome personal hurdles by the grace of rock-n-roll. Or something, ha! Anyway, these kids are hilarious, some with incredible talent. I’m just glad they’re not mine.
The film which had its debut in Philadelphia last week apparently had a shaky start, evidenced by this email which circulated even before the film hit home turf. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it. You can watch the trailer and check for screenings where you live here.

I haven't seen this movie yet--and it isn't even playing close enough to me that I can--but I gotta appreciate anything that inspires anyone to make an Atom + His Package reference. I miss Atom.
