pump the clutch

y'all remember Tool, right? you may recall Maynard has a little tangle with the Lord lately, and now he's off doing Perfect Circle and whatnot. but other than a few side projects like the Replicants, where are the rest of the band now?
well, we found one of them. and in good company no less - Matt Mahaffey from Self helped out on this one, and lo and behold: Feersum Ennjin! the project is spearheaded by Paul D'Amour, the bassist from Tool, who played guitars in the Replicants project linked above. the S/T EP is out now on Silent Uproar, and you can [order it direct from the band online]. While Matt is absent in their live lineup, he handled a variety of instruments during the recording of the EP, including fancy sounding ones like the sub synth and "ears." while D'Amour comes across loud and clear, there are bits of the EP where you hear Matt's influence adding highlights to the swells of the five songs.
if you remember Tool's bowel-dropping basslines and smile, then this is for you. the sound is more classic than progressive, and while it preserves a musical moment in time from the 90's, it does it full justice. if you weren't into it then, you won't be into it now, but if you still have your copy of Opiate, then you'll like this one as well. and kids, it's a measley seven bucks.
