She didn't stop to think she might fall in love with him...

"5 Verses" by Jeremy Warmsley

Thankfully for my own ears, and the ears of you readers out there, I have connections around the world that pass on things my way. Suggestions of things like "Oh hey, you should check this guy out" come quick and often. This one via my friend Stephen, who deserves a pint for this one.

Jeremy Warmsley is a half-English, half-French singer-songwriter from London. He makes interesting music that falls somewhere along the lines of folk music... but made with electronic instruments, guitar loop pedals, drum machines, etc. This particular track is really amazing - Jeremy's multi-chorused voice lilts above the crunchy drum track and guitars and organ. Something about it makes me think of a traditional sea shanty - probably the drone aspect of the organ back there - though I'm fairly sure he's singing about love, not the sea. Unfortunately.

Jeremy cites his influences as Brian Eno, Bjork, Tom Waits, the Microphones, Scott Walker, Talking Heads, Bob Dylan, Wire, XTC, the Beatles, Four Tet, and Aphex Twin. He has been making music since his self-promoted "Jeremy Sings The Classics" nights in Cambridge in 2002 (anyone out there go to these shows?). But he decided to take a left turn from his previous musical work, generally pop-rock type stuff in January 2005, and started over again. This song is going to be on a new EP, called 5 Interesting Lies that should see some kind of release in September or October of this year. He also has a CD-single out on Exercise1 records, called I Believe In The Way You Move, that you can buy here.

Keep your eyes peeled for this guy, he's definitely got something interesting going on.

So, I really enjoy this track since it was posted. Someone wants to give me some money so I can buy his single? :P

Well, of course he is awesome. His name is Jeremy. Albeit, it's spelled a bit weird....
