I Will Toe That Line

The Loving Sounds of StaticMobius Band - I Just Turned 18.

They tell me it's going to rain today. The weatherman on TV last night was desperately excited that it would happen. He was giving us flash food "watches," which is one step down from flash flood "warnings," which is still one step down from an actual flash flood. I personally think chances are low, despite the fact that we've got an astounding 84% humidity here in Los Angeles, which is admittiedly really high for a desert. So with that thick humidity, the yellow clouds, and the paving crew outside my office causing heat lines to rise off molten tar, it's making for some pretty pungent air these days. Lucky for me, this new album from the Mobius Band is clean and bright. It cuts through all the shit like windex.

This album is good. It's not an enormous leap from their City vs. Country EP, but that's not really the point. For the boys, city won out, having moved to Brooklyn from a teeny-tiny town in Massachusetts.

The Loving Sound of Static is a slightly more grown-up record. I don't want to say this is adult-oriented indie rock or anything, but it's not really kids music either. I like that. They sing about having kids and working shit office jobs and all that. The title track, available from the band on their website, is just wonderful. I absolutely love the bridge. I love the 1996 resets. I love the beat. I mean, if you're a fan of Mobius Band (which you should be by now) you won't be disappointed in the record -- it's everything they already do well plus some other shit thrown in the mix.

The album comes out next Tuesday, August 9th, and will be available from the Ghostly Store. I highly recommend picking it up.

Hey, I dig the tune.

What's up with the "music.for-robots" in the genre of the id tag. Are you a genre now?

Simon -- I just wanted to make our songs identifiable in your itunes without intruding on the actual music tags. I know I like to keep track of where I downloaded songs from, and I thought this was a pretty unobtrusive way to do it.

thanks for noticing.

What was the song by them that was on here not too long ago??

Leigh, we posted "I Had a Very Good Year" from their City vs. Country EP a few months ago. That's probably what you're thinking of.

you guys are quite pretentious and really have no clue what you're talking about, wankers.

Poor girl who enjoyed that song. What would you recommend...EP or CD?

Well Delia, they're both excellent. I might recommend the EP just because it's a little cheaper, but with the CD you get a bunch more songs for your money. Get the EP, and when you've made some more money go buy the full length. It'll be worth it.
