Know That I'm Begging You
Moon Maan - Light of the Moon.
Moon Maan is helmed by Rick McCollum, who you might recognize as a founding member of the Afghan Whigs. Listening to this song, his presence is instantly recognizable, showing that Greg Dulli soul obsession was clearly not the only thing the Whigs had up their sleeves. This band formed in early 2004 in Minneapolis (go seem 'em, Dave!), and have been playing around, recording here and there. At first I was skeptical, but this song has totally sold me. I love the rasp in his voice. I love the old alt-rocker feel of it, with the band members using their tambourines to shake off the bulk of the 90s.
I also love the Guns 'n Roses style backing vocals. That shit is tight. It almost sounds like Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, which to me is damn near perfection. At the end of the day this is just a great rock song with a solid shuffle beat and great melody. What else do you really need?
There's no album to buy, and no shows to see at the moment. But keeps your eyes peeled to their website for more details. Oh, and full disclosure, I was hipped to this band from Ryan over at the Catbirdseat. I just thought this was too good to pass up.
