New Adventures in Low-Fi

Finn.Finn - Electrify.

This is the first single for Finn's latest record. His real name is Patrick Zimmer, but other than that I'm sort of at a loss -- I don't speak German so his Press Release is somewhat useless to me. Oh well.

At any rate, I felt this was a nice song to start your Friday off right. It's got those piston beats we're all used to, with a nice little fuzzy guitar loop. Then the synth strings whirl in for the just-shy-of-falsetto chorus. It's pretty and pleasant. It's the kind of music that gets me motivated to do something in the morning without being jarring. It gets a little heavier in the bridge, but never really breaks a sweat.

This is Finn.'s second proper record, and third record total. Expose Yourself to Lower Education came out in 2002, with the remix record Expose Yourself to Disco Education followed in 2004. These are worth tracking down for fans of low-fi electro pop. It reminds me somewhat of the One A.M. Radio, with the obvious Postal Service overtones on the new record. It's not all electro though, with all kinds of different instrumentations and elements woven throughout.

The new record The Ayes Will Have it will be released on Tuesday, August 8th. I doubt it'll have a US domestic release, but you can pick it up in Finn.'s Shop for something like 14 euros.

Comments

The press release just contains the usual: an impressionistic attempt at describing the music. The only real piece of information is the fact that he lives in Hamburg.

Expose Yourself to Lower Education is still one of the finest albums of lo-fi electronica in the 21st century.
