"Mini" by SCSI-9

Kompakt's world-domination mission continues via the new Total, now up to volume 6 - killer beats that span the minimal techno and microhouse spectrum, with shuffle-step schlaffel tech, and stormy pounding techno inbetween. The track list approaches the ridiculous with twenty-four cuts by DJ Koze, Justus Köhncke, Rex The Dog, Tocotronic, the MFA, Jürgen Paape, Reinhard Voigt, Dirk Leyers, Superpitcher, Michael Mayer, SCSI-9, Jonas Bering, Peter Grummich and many more. It seriously is a best of the best of this past year on the label, collecting vinyl releases and new exclusive tracks.

SCSI-9 are Anton Kubikov and Maxim Milyutenko, both born in Moscow - Kubikov has been a DJ since the early 90s, and has been producing music since 1997 - Milyutenko is trained as a sound engineer and producer, helps run Dynamite FM (the first Russian dance pop radio station), and has been working with Kubikov as SCSI-9 since 2001. SCSI-9 has released music on Force Tracks, Morris Audio, Trapez, Salo and Kompakt, and "Mini" comes from SCSI-9's second 12" on Kompakt.

Total 6 is out now and is available on monster double-CD or on double 12" (with just a handful of tracks, but they're handpicked for the DJs out there), OR, available for download on the Kompakt-MP3 site (where the digital files are a very high bitrate, usually 320KBps, so they sound damn good).

Do yourself a favor and buy this album (either from the Kompakt site, from Forced Exposure, from Insound, etc.) - seriously, if you're at all into techno, staying current with Kompakt (as well as the Berlin-based BPitch Control and Shitkatapult labels) via the Total series will really make you happy.

AND for those of you who are lucky enough to live in Kompakt's hometown of Köln (ne Cologne), the label is hosting a ridiculous release party for the CD on Friday August 26 - the lineup includes Koze, Mayer, Tobias Thomas, Superpitcher and others on the decks; Köhncke, Voigt, Ferenc and Rex The Dog doing live sets, and an ambient open-air room. The party is at Studio 672 at Stadtgarten and I am super-jealous of any and all of you that do attend.

Mmmm...yummy. Perhaps my Forced Exposure package will be waiting at home for me today.

By the way, if you haven't already, check out the Boomkat soundbites of the new Baxendale 12" on Kompakt Pop.
