What Is It Robot?

Egad!
Andrew Thompson - We're In Business.

I now declare this our unofficial theme song, at least through the end of the month. When I first heard this, I figured it must have been some leftover electro track from the 80s. Turns out it's brand spanking new. Go figure.

I don't know anything about Andrew Thompson, other than he seems to like raquet sports and has a phobio of lazer-wielding robots. This is fine. I'm not crazy about those robots either. I also try to avoid the robot association with the site. We gets lots of songs about robots in the mail and most of them are really silly or campy or crappy. This particular song can easily fall into all three of those categories, but it maintains a steady diet of awesome to keep it floating above the rest.

I mean, at the end of the day, this track is just damn smooth, as is the rest of the album. All the songs have this electro flavor to them, with casiobeats and nice melodies. The track "Don't Get Down" is definitely another standout. This record, called Egad! should easily fill your white-boy electro quota for the year.

You can buy Egad directly from iTunes, as well as various stores. Check his site for more info.

Egads! thats bloody awful.

holy shit, that's funny. i don't know if i could listen to it more than twice, but it's uncommon to laugh out loud at anything, let alone a song about robots. it reminds me of the landshark skit from saturday night live in theme and shelf-life. it gets old, but it killed me the first time around.

...and to top it off, you used the chestnut "at the end of the day" in each of the last two reviews. Very sportscaster-ish! Interesting find, though!

this was already on stereogum or one of those stereo gum type pages, but you are still cool!

This is an AWESOME album. I'm happy someone else found it too. And YES, "Don't Get Down" is probably my favorite, but "There Must Be Some Kind of Misunderstanding" is also good. AND "Long John Silver"...It's just a great album.

garbage.

It really sounds like he borrows/reinterprets the melody of some track around 1:35 but I can't remember what it is called.

Posted by: DigitalDjigit at August 25, 2005 5:36 PM

Forgot to say, it's a nice song. Very 80's feel indeed.

This song is great. Very few songs can get me to crack up, but this song does it. In spades.

Posted by: lola at September 15, 2005 12:38 PM

andrew is a god. i saw him live and the robot was the best robot thing i have seen since the tin man in the wizard of oz (he was a robot right?) anyway, andrew should be really popular but cos people are really stupid these days and have no sense of humour he probably wont be. andrew is the greatest.
