Maybe you can use your eyes
Alright, before I start: this song isn't Big Jess's best. It's not by any means bad, but its record, The Super Jump-Off, is full of less trivial themes. However, this track's main topic - the complete ineptitude of Minnesota drivers - provides a great backdrop for Jess's laid-back, yet angry, verses.
Big Jess - Road Rage
Big Jess is part of the Twin Cities hip-hop group Unknown Prophets, and this is Jess's second solo release. (The first was called Good Clean Fun, and the new record's full name is Good Clean Fun 2: The Super Jump-Off.)
I have to admit that the main reason I was so attracted to this song was my interest in the poor, poor driving skills of Minneapolis drivers. "But Robot David," you might be saying, "You're from Boston, where drivers are giant assholes." Yes, this is true. But they know what they're doing, and drivers here are just so ... hesitant. Ugh.
Um ... anyway, I really like this record. It reminds me a lot of Atmosphere, partly because of the self-deprecating hometown pride, and otherwise because of the good-natured humor of the whole thing. And perhaps because all I do these days is listen to Late Registration, the whole Super Jumpoff record reminds me of Kanye West. The production is clean but dense, and Big Jess knows how to use it.
You can pick up The Super Jump-Off from CD Baby.
