It'll Always Be Me
While you were out playing, Absolutely Kosher records was quietly releasing two of the best albums of the year. Okay's Low Road and High Road are both excellent albums and will probably end up in my top 10 of the year. I'm not sure of why they're released as two records, and I'm sure we could get into a long discussion about the nature of their titles in relation to salvation or Scotland or something. But I'm not here to talk about backstory.
The track here, "Oh," is taken off Low Road. It's slow and beautiful and heartbreaking, climaxing at the end with the refrain "It'll never be you/It'll always be me," which in the context of the song is really quite moving and somehow a postive thought. The song takes its time to build up, without over becoming boring. I absolutely love it. The distorted keyboard guaze that coats the background is nothing short of gorgeous, and works well with Marty Anderson's tiny, cracked voice.
This is the type of lovesick sing-a-long that soundtracks the end of the party. I don't know what kind of message this would send if you threw it on a mixtape, but that's not my business. It's up to you what happens to these songs after I place them here. Either way, you should definitely check out these two records. High Road is the more upbeat of the two, but that's not really saying too much. Still, if you're at all intrigued by this track, you'll love the records.
Absolutely Kosher offers a package deal where you can pick up both records for $20. Get to it. Highly Recommended.
