Red balloons and ferris wheels
I wrote about Spaghetti Western String Co. back in May, when they were working hard, as usual, but didn't have a new album to promote. Now they have not only a new album - the Quiet Mob EP - but a release show tonight at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis.
Here's the leadoff track from the new record.
Spaghetti Western String Co. - Granias.
As you can hear, Minneapolis-based Spaghetti Western is equal parts bluegrass, jazz and classical, with a great mixture of instruments - banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, violin, cello - to boot. Their recent projects have included not only this new EP but a score for the 1956 French film The Red Balloon, which they have performed in some local venues this year.
And though it's not terribly obvious based on this track, they're a treat to see live, especially at a space like the Cedar, which has a huge stage in an intimate setting. And though it's not a bar, they sell all sortsa beer. Good music and beer, what else do you need?
The show starts at 8, and the Cedar is at 416 Cedar Ave. S. in Minneapolis. Tickets are $15. Folk/blues band The Pines open.
Buy the Quiet Mob EP from the band's site.
