Wet

unreal
Paul Kalkbrenner - Gebrunn Gebrunn

Well, its Friday, and a sopping wet one at that. As those of you who live in the North-East know, the rain has not stopped, at least not for more than a few minutes, for a full week now. Rain rain rain and nothing else. This is the kind of rainstorm where you get the feeling it won't ever stop - I'm looking at a Blade Runner future here, with everything just falling apart in the rain. I tell you, there is nothing like coming into the office after a day off to find your carpet soaked (already smelling of mold) and a roaring floor-dryer trying to evaporate the endless moisture...

Well, anyway, as I said before it is Friday, so I'm happy to give up a slice of Techno goodness in the hopes of (either) brightening your day, or maybe just making the best of the wet darkness. Without further ado, here it is, and it is huge. Just a huge, chugging techno stormer from this longtime BPitch Control artist, Paul Kalkbrenner. This is seriously heavy, almost trancey stuff, especially for BPitch - a label best known (in my opinion anyway) for their electro-influenced take on techno music - but a lot of folks have been working in this vein lately, with smart, innovative producers making what you could call "big-room" tracks. I was never much of a fan of "trance" music, but if this is the future of techno, I'll keep listening to see where people go with it.

This track was released as the A-side track of a 12" (BPC 110) towards the end of the summer, and this song also appears on the new BPitch compilation Camping 2 - their second volume of their best (as was the first volume of Camping, to celebrate BPitch Control's 101st release), and in this case, newest releases. Camping 2 was handpicked by label-head Ellen Allien to showcase the best releases the label put out this year. The comp also features an amazingly ill electro track by the MFA (best known for their track "The Difference It Makes" released last year on Kompakt), the amazing 100th BPitch track "Happy Happy" by Tomas Andersson, and among others, a few brilliant tracks remixed by Miss Kittin, Tiga, and Dexter.

If you like techno, electro and/or house music, it is really worth picking up because it does a good job of tracking one of the most important German labels around right now - Camping 2 is out in early November in the US, and you'll be able to purchase it from our friends at Forced Exposure (also you can buy the 12" of this track, which is longer on the record, and the B-side is solid too).

Stay dry and have a good weekend everyone!

I'm from Mass. here, near New Bedford, and that weather really beat the shit out of me. So much so that I cranked out two songs between the 14th and the 18th, available on Myspace:

Just saying, it's always good to distract yourself with pleasant song!
