God Lives Underwater - All Wrong

In the mid-nineties, after nine inch nails started getting played heavily on mtv, the labels went a bit nuts and signed every "industrial" rock band they could find. The result was a wave of really mediocre music that gave industrial a bad name. In all that noise, unfortunately, some real gems got overlooked and forgotten. One was God Lives Underwater.

On sunday, October 16th, David Reilly, GLU's singer (and basically half the band), passed away at age 34.

"All Wrong", off Empty, was one of those songs that my friends and I would play on repeat for hours at a time and never managed to tire of it.

Sounds like some bizarre Alice in Chains vs NIN, "Jar of Flies"/"Broken" mash-up.

that´s sad. I also liked their stuff at a certain time way back.

Yeah. No. I don't think so.

This bums me out. They were such a great band, standing out on radio stations that were playing mostly crap. I loved "Life in the So-Called Space Age" and I just listened to it about a week ago too. I hadn't listened to that album in maybe a year. Kinda strange that I need a GLU fix just before this happened. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the album this last time more than I had in the past (besides the first week I owned it).

Remember the video for "From Your Mouth"? That was such a great video. I could never get enough of it. I taped it once and forced all my friends, that were willing, to watch it. I don't think they were into it as much as I was.

I was never been able to get my hands on copies of their first two albums. As I recall, I once found their first album and bought a copy, only to find a disc for the Jayhawks inside. I took the album back, got another copy, opened it and sure enough there was the Jayhawks again. The store clerk was just as surprised as I. I think there was one more copy on the shelf, the clerk opened it and yeah, Jayhawks. Since they were out of copies at that point I exchanged it for a copy of The Podigy's "Music for the Jilted Generation."

I hope you rest in peace Mr. Reilly.

It's definitely sad that Mr. Reilly has died, but how can you say that God Lives Underwater wasn't part of the 'wave of really mediocre music that gave industrial a bad name'? Come on, this tepid song is quaint, at best. Sure, it's got a decent hook but it still sounds dated and forgettable.

Fuck you tim, one song does not define a whole band, nothing sounds like them. And fuck you Kurtie.

I just love mindless fucks on the internet.

david was such a creative induvidual and his new songs were so intricate and yet differrent from the glu stuff, at least he released it on the internet and had that e.p. out.

hmm i dont get the hate about all wrong. its like nin crossed with dj shadow and depeche mode...i just dont think you guys are into sampling and guitars...

yeah i love glu. i like wired all wrong too. i'm glad jeff is working with matt mahaffey now but it must suck having to 'abandon' glu in a way, i mean dave and jeff it was all them you know? you can hear elements of both of them in each song; itll never be the same..

Yeah, Tim, Curtie... Fuck you.
I was friends with Dave and anyone that hasn't listened to the entire body of work has no place judging what was played on the radio. This band was truly gifted at writing and the duo (Reilly and Turzo) were perhaps one of the most creatively synergistic duos in Industrial to this day. Has anyone that critiques them every tried sequencing on analog gear the way they did? Or do you even know what analog gear is? There were many amazing things that came from that creative partnership and David will never be forgotten.
If you want some good information about the band, and maybe to do some re-thinking. Try hitting the URL I posted and listening to the David Reilly interview I produced last year.
But I do think that machine609 said it best when he said "fuck you time, and fuck you Kurtie".
Seriously. How can you diss on someone that isn't alive to prove you wrong. Cowardess FUCKS

David Reilly I miss you.
This is still so sad over a year later.
