Acting Like Monopoly, Buying Up the Property

John Arnold & Jeremy Ellis - Live on Gilles Peterson's "Worldwide"

Today is a day for getting things done. Somehow, it's really hot in Los Angeles and I've got work to do. Up early, out the door, getting down to business. After a late night of spectacular live music (you suckers who didn't show completely missed out on two of the top live performances of the year. You should feel sorry for yourselves), all in the mood for something like this.

You might know them separately, but when John and Jeremy get together they do 100% live freestyle sets that are nothing short of ridiculous. Not a lot of people know this side of them because Jeremy's only played live in Los Angeles once before (at a 500% party that Puma did September 24, 2004 at the Rec Center in Echo Park) but he blew people's minds. Basically, Jeremy plays keys and MPC, and John plays MPC and a MIDI-triggered guitar which is fed through his laptop, which allows him to make all sorts of sounds.

This track here was recorded for Gilles Peterson's Worldwide show recently. You can get a feel for the live show, which also extends well into funky territory (think a James Brown house party). It's definitely a crazy-ass time, and a good long mp3 to listen to. You can find more info and albums at the official Ubiquity Records site.

The boys have a last-minute show here in LA on Wednesday night, which comes highly recommended. Info:

What were these two top live performances you speak of? Was one of them Bauhaus? I'll cry myself to sleep tonight if you say yes
